Ruth’s Shawl desires that women and orphans receive God’s covering of hope, love, and salvation. As some of the poorest and most hopeless people of the world, widows and orphans are often abandoned by their communities and left with no means of support. Ruth’s Shawl exists to love them in practical and culturally appropriate ways, so that they may know God’s love for themselves and be filled with His eternal hope.

The name Ruth’s Shawl came from a study of the book of Ruth. As evidence of God’s love and provision, Boaz poured six measures of grain into Ruth’s shawl and Ruth carried this blessing home to her widowed mother-in-law. The women in Malawi use their shawls in many ways — to carry their precious babies, food, firewood and as protection against the elements of the day or night. Ruth’s Shawl seeks to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and as God directs and enables, to lovingly cover, protect and provide for widows and orphans.
